Restoring the Delta and Creating a Clean, Reliable Water Supply

Restoring the ecological health of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta is critical for the protection of all species, aquatic and terrestrial, while providing clean, reliable water to twenty-five million Californians.

Landmark Comprehensive Water Legislation
In 2009, a comprehensive plan to meet the state’s growing waters needs was signed. The historic package represents a major step to pursue the co-equal goals of restoring the Delta ecosystem and ensuring water supply reliability for all Californians.

Delta Vision Task Force/Cabinet Recommendations
The Delta Vision Blue Ribbon Task Force developed a program for sustainable management of the Delta’s multiple uses, resources and ecosystem. These recommendations helped inform the comprehensive water package passed by the Legislature.

Delta Stewardship Council, Delta Conservancy, and Delta Protection Commission
The Delta Stewardship Council’s mission is to achieve the coequal goals of providing a more reliable water supply for California and protecting, restoring, and enhancing the Delta ecosystem. The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy is a primary state agency involved in the implementation of ecosystem restoration in the Delta. The Delta Protection Commission seeks to protect, maintain, enhance and enrich the overall quality of the Delta environment and economy.
